NSW Government supporting international students through COVID 19

On 18 May 2020, the NSW government will fund temporary crisis accommodation for international students stranded amounting to $20 million to protect the latter and maintain the state’s record as a leading global study destination.

Geoff Lee, State Minister for Skills and Tertiary Education indicated that helping international education means helping the whole state of NSW.

Mr. Lee indicated that international students are integral parts of the community and the NSW economy.

The package includes the following:

  1. Temporary housing scheme targeted at students in genuine need and delivered through approved student accommodation or homestay providers.
  2. A 24/7 international student support service through the NSW Government COVID-19 hotline (13 77 88) which offers free advice and information about measures including moratorium on rental evictions, medical, mental health, legal and emergency supports.
